I started in the mortgage industry in 1994, initially as a telemarketer for one of my friends, but I quickly found that I had a knack for this. I began booking appointments, selling deals, and closing loans. I transitioned to a Loan Officer role for a local company in Newport News, and in a short period of time, I opened my own branch. Three years later, I opened and worked for my own mortgage company – Chesapeake Home Mortgage & Bay Home Title.

My nearly 30 years of experience has prepared me to help borrowers just like you. I’ve taken all the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) classes. I specialize in helping our veterans make their way through the VA loan program. I love getting those who served our country into the homes of their dreams. I am also certified to do FHA, VA and Conventional Rehab loans.

When I get the opportunity to work with a potential client or business partner, I quickly turn a simple consultation into a relationship. I let them know I’m here for them and all their mortgage needs, and my passion to get loans closed is second to none. I use my problem-solving skills to make loans “work” and adapt to my client’s needs and changes to the industry.

Additionally, I’m the current Mayor of Cape Charles. I’m blessed to have the opportunity to give back to the community I love so much; paying it forward is a great motivator.

I like to stay involved with the Eastern Shore Association of REALTORS® and serve my community through Habitat for Humanity, the Children’s Hospital, and the SPCA.

Along with sharing precious time with my wife and best friend of 33 years Melissa “M” Charney and our pride and joy Jake Redmond Charney, I love to spend my off-time boating, scuba diving, playing golf, or watching Baltimore’s Ravens and Orioles crush their competition.
