Reflecting on 2020

Teamwork remained a common theme and our core values continue to be our backbone.

As we enter the new year, we thought it was only right to reflect on last year.

Everyone felt the effects of a challenging year, near and far. However, two things prevailed: Teamwork remained a common theme and our core values continue to be our backbone.

We genuinely cared.

In 2020, Atlantic Bay helped more than 26,000 families achieve their goals of homeownership. Whether through purchasing or refinancing, our amazing team worked tirelessly to bring each one to the closing table.

The closing table looked different too, in many ways. While navigating the challenges of a more remote-centered way of life, Atlantic Bay performed more than 5,500 eClosings and the first full RON (Remote Online Notary) in Virginia to safely meet the closing needs of our borrowers.

Through our charitable arm, AB Cares, we donated more than $1 million to charities and participated in events that promote the passions of our customers, employees and communities in which we serve. AB Cares’ unique partnership with the non-profit Roc Solid Foundation works to build hope for families with children facing pediatric cancer. Last year, we supported 7 playset builds with Roc Solid and provided more than 1,500 families with Ready Bags.

Also in 2020, Atlantic Bay expanded its support of the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Virginia as its continued commitment to supporting the communities Atlantic Bay calls home.

We inspired growth.

Adaptability has always been at the forefront of Atlantic Bay, and this year kicked it up a few notches for us. We grew in more ways than we can name. Not only did we grow as a company with more than 800 employees strong, but we deepened relationships within.

In 2020, Atlantic Bay partnered with the National Association of Minority Mortgage Bankers of America (NAMMBA) to continue to build its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Program with a commitment to ensuring an open, accepting, and diverse environment with a focus across our four DEI pillars:

  • Attracting candidates

  • Work environment improvement

  • Opportunities and access

  • Disadvantaged youth

We also supported one another by being passionately positive. “Positivity is attractive and contagious. We try to approach everything we do with passionate positivity,” says Brian Holland, CEO, “When we strengthen our people skills, we build connections and create lasting relationships.”

We had fun.

Working from home has had its challenges, but Atlantic Bay made the experience feel as normal as possible for its employees.

Through AB Fit, physical trainers continue to help get us on our feet – even providing classes for kids! – and counselors and coaches help support our mental health through Zoom sessions as well. The Digital Life Newsletter sent to employees also continues to celebrate promotions as well as share feature stories and opportunities to stay connected while physically apart.

It’s impossible to track the exact number of laughs and giggles our Zoom happy hours, company games, holiday events and contests have provided, but trust us, it’s a big number!

We are thankful for our talented team and strong core values that kept us together in 2020. Here’s to 2021! May we continue to celebrate one another, work hard together and stay true to who we are.
