Empowering Women in Mortgage: How Atlantic Bay Leads the Way

Backed by a strong female leadership presence company-wide, our team is paving the way for women to thrive in the mortgage industry.

Did you know that less than 20% of financial service executives in the United States are women? At Atlantic Bay, we’re proud to say that 80% of our Executive Leadership team are female*, and across our Sales team, women consistently rank among our top producers each month.

How can that possibly be? Because we empower our team not just in business but in life, supporting their growth while ensuring they have time for what truly matters outside of work. Plus, it certainly helps that we get the chance to collaborate daily with some of the brightest leaders in the industry.

Leading Ladies of Atlantic Bay

Defying industry norms, four out of the five members of our Executive Leadership Team are women—women and mothers who drive change daily, often while managing responsibilities beyond the workplace.

And the impact of our female leaders hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2024, Chief Operations Officer Christina “Chrissy” Brown was named a Woman of Influence by HousingWire. This nationally recognized honor “is given to individuals who are making notable contributions to both their businesses and to the industry at large,” celebrating the efforts of “women who are driving the housing economy forward.”

It was no surprise to those who know her that Chrissy received this title in July, a testament to her diligent oversight of loan manufacturing processes and the thriving culture she’s nurtured among our 200+ Operations team members.

“I obviously attribute a lot of [our culture of equality] to our owners who just really want the folks that are on their team to be the most qualified,” shared Chrissy during her recent appearance on HousingWire’s Ten Minute Talks podcast. “And it really provides a whole different diversity.”

Of course, Chrissy is not the only woman of Atlantic Bay to receive special recognition recently. A few short months ago, Executive Vice President, Regional Manager Nelda Cales was named a “Mortgage Star” by Mortgage Women Magazine. And our Director of Sales Strategic Initiatives, Hannah McManus, was named an Insider Award winner, also by HousingWire.

But beyond all the accolades, what makes these women’s successes, along with so many other women at Atlantic Bay, truly remarkable is they make a difference while juggling external board positions, volunteer work, and—most importantly—motherhood.

A Culture of Family First

Atlantic Bay knows that employees aren’t just…well, employees—they’re mothers, fathers, parents, and simply people first. “I have never had a moment where my company demanded something when I should’ve been there for my child,” says Chrissy.

“If I say my son has X, Y, and Z, they say ‘Go, we have your back. We will cover that.’ I think that’s a huge difference.”

While businesses across the country may have set closing times, motherhood decidedly doesn’t.

Sam Simpson, one of the fantastic Mortgage Bankers out of the Richmond Market, sat down with us earlier this year to discuss her experience with our Pure Sales business model. Sam was quick to shoutout her Producing Sales Managers, ReMi Doyle and Emily Sedlar, for their leadership and understanding during the birth of her son, Carter.

With Carter in hand, Sam explained, “To date, [ReMi and Emily] have done a lot for me, but the biggest thing is they supported me while this little one here was born and during the first couple of months at home during maternity leave.”

“I knew that if I needed anything, they were a phone call or a visit away. And I also knew that they always had my back no matter what.”

At Atlantic Bay, we make it possible to realistically balance work and family life, not just for our C-suite executives, but for everyone.

A Pledge to Exceptional Service and Inclusion

Since 1996, our team has operated with the same guiding principles and ideals, all with the goal of best serving our customers. And what does that really mean? Our core vision, inclusive company culture, and strong, trailblazing female leaders make Atlantic Bay the ideal place for women to serve homebuyers of all backgrounds and thrive—both in and out of the office.

With our support, everyone at Atlantic Bay has the freedom to build their winning team and achieve success on their terms. We empower all our employees, regardless of gender, to thrive and lead authentically.
